Collection: Acroyoga Pillows
An acroyoga pillow (also called a base pillow or acro wedge) lifts your hips in L-basing, takes the strain off your lower back and makes pops, whips and washing machines easier. Our BASE UP acroyoga pillows were developed with physiotherapists and acrobats, use upcycled foam, a washable cotton cover with anti-slip dots and a five-times stitched strap with metal buckle. Choose the BASE UP Pro for maximum support and dynamic acro, or the lighter BASE UP Lite that fits in your backpack for jams, festivals and travel.

Why bases use an acroyoga pillow
In L-basing you lie on your back with your legs up while your flyer's weight presses down through your feet. With tight hamstrings your pelvis tilts backwards and your lower back rounds under that load, session after session. A firm wedge under your hips:
- keeps your lower back in a more neutral position and reduces pressure on the lumbar spine,
- makes it easier to straighten your legs, even if you are not very flexible,
- gives you a better angle and more power for pops, whips and washing machines.

How to choose the right acroyoga pillow
- Height: around 8 cm is a good travel size, around 11 cm gives the most support.
- Firmness: soft cushions and folded blankets collapse under a flyer. You want a firm core with a softer top layer for your sacroiliac joint and spine.
- Grip: an anti-slip underside keeps the pillow in place during dynamic skills.
- Strap: a strong strap lets you carry the pillow and keeps it close to your body while basing.
In short: if you train regularly and only want to buy one pillow, take the BASE UP Pro. If you are new to acro or travel a lot, take the BASE UP Lite.
Acroyoga pillow FAQ
What is an acroyoga pillow?
A firm foam wedge that the base lies on during L-basing. It raises the hips so the lower back stays in a healthier position under load.
Do I really need an acroyoga pillow?
Not for every session. If you base a lot or have tight hamstrings, a pillow protects your lower back and makes many skills easier.
Can I use a yoga block or a folded blanket instead?
For a quick try, yes. For regular training they are too soft or too unstable: blankets compress, and blocks can slip or press into your spine under a flyer.
How high should an acroyoga pillow be?
Around 8 cm for travel, around 11 cm for maximum support. If in doubt, choose the higher one for training at home and the lower one for festivals.
Is an acroyoga pillow suitable for beginners?
Yes. Beginners often benefit the most, because the raised hips make up for limited flexibility.
Can I use it for icarian games and foot juggling?
Yes. The BASE UP Pro is wide and stable enough for icarian, pops and whips. Many bases also use it for longer static sequences.
